Caring for someone at home with a life threatening illness especially when it is end of life care is a deeply personal and meaningful experience, having the right equipment can make all the difference. You can help HHH provide it.
Palliative care provides symptom relief and quality of life for serious potentially life threatening illnesses. It may be combined with curative treatments. End of life care is a form of palliative care for the final months or weeks, focussing on comfort and dignity as death approaches and a cure is no longer possible.
The support that HHH provides has several components.
HHH supports patients who choose to stay in their own home primarily by
financing the purchase of equipment that is available on loan for the duration of the illness
assisting with the cost of medications. We recognise that the cost of end of life medications can be a heavy weight for many. That’s why HHH continues to support patients in need, helping to ease financial stress during such a vulnerable time.
When hospitalisation is the best option for reasons such as specialist treatment, respite care or the wishes of the patient, HHH supports the patient and his/her family by provision of public amenities. HHH has contributed to the Wauchope District Memorial Hospital Palliative Care Unit by funding the furnishings of both the carers' and patient's rooms, creating warm, welcoming spaces where families can be together, surrounded by comfort. More recently, smart televisions were purchased for the communal areas and the wards. These TVs not only help create a diversion and manage fatigue, they allow visitors to share memories through photos and home videos of special events.
Thanks to the generosity of our donors over the past few years, HHH has been able to provide essential items through the palliative care equipment loan pool, including hospital-style beds, feeding tools, and mobility aids that bring comfort and dignity to patients and ease the burden on families.
The Hastings Home Hospice service is available throughout the Hastings Valley, Port Macquarie, Wauchope and Camden Haven areas.
